Position Overview

Part of the Nicholas Family of Companies, Big Fish Hospitality Group is the parent company to two restaurants - Big Fish’s Icehouse (located within the Nicholas Sportsplex) and The Prospect and an events and catering space that is set to open in early 2025. The accounting assistant will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting activities of the company. In addition, the accounting assistant will be tasked to develop, create and implement new accounting
processes, including documentation and reporting structures, to guide strategic financial and operational decision-making.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Oversee all accounting operations for the group, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and
    consistency across processes. Key tasks include:
    • Managing daily sales, cash, and bank transactions within the accounting system
    • Administering invoices, including review, approval, follow-up, and integration into inventory and accounting systems
    • Handling vendor relations, including completing credit applications, collecting W-9 forms, managing payments and communications, and integrating data into inventory and accounting systems
    • Conducting monthly credit card reconciliations, as well as managing receipts and invoice entries
    • Performing monthly reconciliations for bank transactions, sales, and gift cards
    • Reviewing and entering monthly inventory data
    • Filing and processing monthly sales tax for state and village jurisdictions
    • Facilitating year-end closing procedures and preparing adjusting journal entries
  • Participate in weekly operational meetings to stay aligned with business objectives
  • Generate weekly sales reports and collaborate with the controller on special reporting requests
  • Implement and document accounting processes for improved efficiency
  • Work closely with the controller, business colleagues, CPA firm, and other external partners as needed.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, or commensurate experience
  • Restaurant accounting experience preferred
  • Software experience with Toast, MarginEdge, and QuickBooks preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and time management abilities
